BANTAM FURY CAPTURES FIRST FIELD WIN
Hello all you crazy lacrosse players! As you are aware, the KLMLA is fielding
a team at the Bantam Level of the Ontario Minor Field Lacrosse League for
the 2009 season. This is the first time the association has entered a team
on the field side of things, and we are looking forward to adding more
next season.
The squad was put together very quickly and have played in 2 tournaments so far, and while being new to the field game, have proved to all the teams that they will be a force to reckon with. The team travelled to The Beaches in Toronto on Sunday April 26, 2009, and in the rain and the wind from Lake Ontario, came away with the KLMLA's first victory at the field level, with the hope of many more to come.
The team was shorthanded during the weekend, but still managed to pull off a pretty impressive 13-3 victory over the Mimico 2 team. The team came to play this game right from the opening draw! Having a couple of games under their belts from the previous weekend, and a practice to boot, where coach Steve Millard put the boys through their paces, the guys game out flying! With superb goaltending from all three of the teams goalies, Patrick Stacey, Mackenzie Langford and Joshua O'Neill, the boys scored 3 goals in the 1st quarter, 2 in the 2nd, 3 in the 3rd, and 5 in the 4th, to show the Mimico team that just because they were new to the loop, they are definately there to play.
The goals for the Fury were scored by Liam Newton and Jasper Poulton with
3 a piece, Thomas Weber and Hayden Ryan with 2 each, and singles to Brenden
Hlibchuk, Matt Northmore, Riley Smith. The boys played another game later
in the day, but with 3 more players having to leave due to another commitment
this left the team very short, and fatigue set in. However, the day was
a hugh success with the KLMLA picking up their first win.
The boys are in action again on Mother's Day weekend, when they will travel to Oshawa and who knows maybe win a couple more games for MOM!!!
