MONDAY, MAY 28: UXBRIDGE MIDGETS DOMINATE FURY

Monday, May 28, the "Farmers' Mutual" Midget Fury rep team played host to the Uxbridge Enforcers and came out on the short end of a 7-3 loss.  The Uxbridge team dominated the play for the majority of the game.

Uxbridge peppered Fury goalie James Puffer in the first period, blasting 12 shots, of which he saved 11.  His steady goaltending helped the Fury stay in the game, otherwise it could have got out of hand early.  The Uxbridge goal came just 3 minutes into the game.  The Fury could only muster 5 shots on goal for the period.  Corey Fargo made the most of the lack of shots tying the game at 1-1 with 3 minutes remaining, assisted by Cody Welton.

The second period was a different story.  It was a defensive battle with neither team creating many scoring chances.  Uxbridge out-shot the Fury by a small 6-4 margin.  However, even with the few chances Uxbridge had they capitalized by scoring 3 goals.  And the Fury countered with one on the power play on Fargo’s second goal of the game, assisted by Josh Gilmore, to make it 4-2.

The same trend continued into the third period.  Uxbridge scored 3 goals on 10 shots, including an empty net goal.  The Fury again could only manage 6 shots.  The only bright spot for the home team was when Fargo scored his third goal of the game, again on the power-play, assisted by Steven Junkin.

The final shots on goal were a lop-sided 28-15 in favour of the team from Uxbridge.

Upcoming games for the Midget Fury team see them on the road for an extended time.  On Thursday, May 31 they visit the Toronto Beaches; Thursday, June 7 they are in Newmarket; and on Sunday, June 10 they are in a tournament in Stayner.
