NEWTON & BOS LEAD PEE WEE FURY TO DEFEND ZONE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Kawartha Lakes Fury championship banner collection continues to grow. The Jim Newton Electric Fury Peewee’s traveled to Uxbridge on Monday July 21 to successfully defend their Zone 6 Peewee D Championship coming away with a 7-4 win.

Nine minutes later, Ryan fed Jordan Currie for a 2-0 lead, followed by another Fury goal by Liam Newton assisted by Earl Westlake and Zack Flemming to give the Fury a 3-0 lead at the end of the 1st Period.

The second saw the Enforcers storm back with 2 unanswered goals. The Fury would extend their lead on Newton’s second goal of the game from. The Enforcers, not wanting to lose their second straight zone championship game to the Fury came back to tie the game 4-4 at the end of the second.

The game could have slipped away from the Fury, if it wasn’t for the stellar play in goal by Michael Bos. Bos held the Fury in the game long enough for newcomer Scott Clyne to break the tie at 5:15 of the third period assisted by Newton and Westlake. The Fury continued their run with Newton’s third goal of the game with 1:29 left, from Skylor Andrus and Matt Northmore. Newton put the game out of reach with 58 seconds left from Ryan.

Fury Head Coach Jeff Poulton was happy with his team’s effort. “I am proud of the boys, they played hard. After Uxbridge came back to tie the game the kids dug deep
and pulled it together. Our goalie Mikey was outstanding and the kids are putting there game together at the right time. We still have a lot of work ahead of us to prepare for the provincials, but the boys showed that they are up to the task.”

KLMLA President Paul Hough added “We’re proud that our Peewee team is continuing to build a winning tradition for Kawartha Lakes Minor Lacrosse. These kids have come together through tough stretches and an unbalanced schedule to emerge as a team to be reckoned with as they head to provincials. We’re proud of how they have represented our association and the Kawartha Lakes community.”
