THURSDAY, MAY 31: MIDGET FURY STILL SEEKING FIRST WIN
Victory continues to elude the "Farmers' Mutual" Midget Fury
team, following a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Beaches in Scarborough.
The Fury team’s record in Ontario Lacrosse Association Zone 6 play fell to 0-3-1 after Thursday’s defeat at the Beaches Sports Centre.
Defensive lapses and lack of a smooth transition game once again cost the
Fury, which was outshot 25-11.
Stewart Harford was the lone scorer for Kawartha Lakes. His goal from the
right side of the Toronto net with one minute left in the opening period
tied the game at 1-1, but that was as close as the Fury would get with
Toronto. Wade Coady assisted on the goal.
Starting Fury goalie Luke Smith had to leave the game following a collision at the net early in the second period. With Toronto leading 2-1, Smith played the ball to a teammate and set a pick behind his net against a Beaches player, who cross-checked the goaltender under the chin with a move that received a five-minute major penalty. Smith’s helmet was knocked off and the goalie struck the back of his head on the floor in a fall. He was replaced in goal by James Puffer for the remainder of the game.
