PEE WEE FURY SPLIT THE WEEK
This past week the Fury played a couple of games in their Zone 6 Ontario
Lacrosse Association schedule, and game out of the week with an even 1-1
record, bringing their season record to a 3-3-2 status. On Wednesday
night, the team travelled down highway 7 to face the Peterborough Laker
squad. In what only can be called the starting of a very fierce rivalry,
the Peterborough squad came away with 6-3 victory, to avenge an earlier
loss in the season to the Fury. This game between these 2 teams was
very chippy and rough, with a lot of bitterness that has more then likely
created a dislike for each other. The Fury, although not as big as
the Peterborough squad would not back down from the intimidation tactics,
but in the long run, a defensive letdown, as well as the fatigue factor,
spelled the demise of the Fury. Scoring for the Fury were Thomas
Weber with 2 and Liam Newton with 1, while assists went to Zach Gilmore,
Nic Williams, and Riley Smith.
On Thursday night, it was a totally different team that travelled to
Stouffville to face the Markham Thunder. Things did not start off well
though, as the referees were 30 minutes late, and then when the game
did start, on their very first possession of the opening face off, the
Thunder ran down the floor and scored on their first shot. Markham
controlled the play for most of the first period, and their second shot
was a bullet drive that nailed the goalie for the Fury, Mac Langford,
right between the eyes. According to goalie Langford, "that woke me
up, and boy can that kid shoot." Well, that shot must have woke the
whole team up as well, as from that point on, the Fury picked up their
game and took it to the Thunder, avenging a home loss to them earlier,
by beating them in their own rink by a score of 6-3. The Fury seem to
be able to set up for the shot that they wanted almost at will, and the
defence allowed Langford to see most of the shots, which aided in the
victory. Scoring for the Fury were Nic Hepburn and Craig Shier with 2
each, and singles too Liam Newton and Nic Williams. There was a single
assist, and that went to Sam McGrisken.
The Fury are off next week, just practising a couple of times to get
ready for their next action, which will be a Father's Day tournament in
Stayner. Their next league action, will take place on Thursday, June
21, 2007 at 7:30pm, when they will host the Peterborough Lakers....
