THURSDAY, MAY 24: PEE WEE FURY STILL UNDEFEATED

The Fury pee wee rep lacrosse team kept their perfect record in tact on Thursday night, but it took a 3 goal third period comeback to tie the game at 4-4 and move their record to 2-0-2.

By far, this game was the teams slowest start of the season, as the visiting squad from Uxbridge was all over the Fury for the first 2 periods, totally dominating them offensively, defensively, not to mention the score board.  The Enforcers came out flying in the 1st period and scored their first goal just 36 seconds into  the game.  They kept coming and coming at the Fury, who were unable to mount any type of attack and seem to be really caught sleeping most of the period.  The visitors scored two more goals and held the 3-0 lead, until with just 4 minutes left to go in the period, a great end to end rush by the Fury's Nic Williams, who picked the ball up at the Fury blue line and just pulled away from the Uxbridge defenders, scored one.

Again in the second period, the Enforcers took it to the Fury, who seemed to lack that killer instinct that had been so successful for them in their first three games.  Before the period ended, the visitors again scored, making the score 4-1 in their favour after two periods of play.

Between the periods, Coach Hough had the full attention of his squad as he tried to get them motivated for the third period.  To start the period, Lindsay was forced to make a goaltending change as the starter Mac Langford had an equipment malfunction, and was unable to finish.  After facing as much rubber as he had faced in the first two periods, he was probably happy to have the rest, as he was left to face many shots from close range, due to the lack of defensive support.   However, the chalk talk by the coach, must have lit a fire under the Fury, as just over 2 minutes into the third a great passing play between, Craig Shier, Nick Hepburn and Hayden Ryan, resulted in a huge goal by Shier to pull them within 2 goals.  The period went back and forth, with both teams having some great scoring chances, and with just over 8 minutes to play the Fury scored 2 goals in the span of 1:49 to tie the game and send the players and the fans to their feet, as this was really the first opportunity of the night to get into the game.  The Fury's third goal was scored by Thomas Weber, with the assist going to Craig Shier, and the tying goal was scored by Zach Gilmore, with the assists going to Hayden Ryan and Aiden Jamieson.

The game ended in a 4-4 tie, and the coaching staff was relieved to have come back and gotten the tie.

The next couple of games for the Fury are next week, when they will host Whitby on Monday night, and Markham on Wednesday.  Both games are at the Lindsay Rec Complex, and start time is 730pm.
