FIRST WIN STILL ELUDES BANTAM FURY

Game 3 into the season, and the Mason Homes Bantam Fury lacrosse squad has yet to notch a victory. However, the encouraging news is that the boys put in a better effort and looked like they may squeak out the win.

The boys played their best two periods of the season so far against Markham, but when the third started, it looked like a different team on the floor.

For the third game in a row, the boys allowed the first goal of the game, and allowed it in the first minute of the game. The game from here on in was a see saw battle, going back and forth at both ends with neither team wanting to take control. Both goaltenders were called to make some difficult saves and keep their respective teams close.

With the score 1-0 in favour of Markham after their early goal, two minutes later the Fury answered with a goal of their own, which was scored by Nic Williams, with assists going to Brenden Hlibchuk and Luke Tamlin, to even the score at 1-1. With six minutes to go in the 1st period, Markham increased their lead to 2-1, only to have the Fury tie the score 4 minutes later on a goal by Zac Gilmore. The 1st period ended all deadlocked at 2 goals apiece. The Thunder outshot the Fury 11-7 over the period.

The second period began, and looked as those the Fury were ready to take it to the Thunder going up and down the floor, matching them shot for shot. But at the 6 minute mark of the period, the Thunder again took the lead. The Fury were intent on evening the score again, and a the 6 minute mark, Riley Smith knotted it at 3 goals apiece. The rest of the period was played fairly even, and the shots on goal was proof, as the period ended all even up with 12 shots apiece.

For whatever reason, another early goal just 9 seconds into the 3rd period, would be the undoing of the Fury again. They seemed to stop doing the things that were successful over the first two periods, and this showed in the 3rd, as the Thunder moved the ball around with ease, and scored two more goals before the end of the game, giving them a 6-3 victory over the Fury. The shots for the third period were 13-8 in favour of Markham, giving them a game total of 36 to the Fury's 27.

Next action for the Mason Home squad is Thursday, May 22, when they travel to Stoufville to play the Thunder at the end of a home and home series.

The next home game for the boys is Tuesday, June 17, when they play host to the Clarington Gaels.2.
