NOVICE FURY CAPTURE ZONE 6 'C' CHAMPIONSHIP

WHITBY- The Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Novice Fury defeated the Whitby Warriors 5-4 to capture the Zone 6 C Championship. It is the highest level of championship that the young club has won to date.

Fury Captain Reid Masters got the scoring going at 13:22 of the first period to give the Fury a 1-0 lead, Goalie Adam Shier drew the assist. The game went back and forth but the Warriors could not put the tying goal behind Shier. The period closed with the 1-0 lead in tact.

The Warriors stormed back in the second period with three unanswered goals at the 10, 7 and 5 minute marks. Fury Head Coach Mike Langford used his timeout to calm his team down. The strategy worked as Masters would get his second of the game, from Cameron Marquis with 25 seconds left in the period to make the score 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period.

Mac West tied the game two minutes into the third period of a feed from Matt Tamlin. The Warriors replied at 8:30 of the third to re-take the lead, but 43 seconds later the Fury replied with an unassisted gold scored by Mac West. The game continued to go back and forth with chances at both ends. Adam Shier stood tall in the net, making save after save, frustrating the Warriors offence. Just as the game looked like it was headed for Overtime. The Fury defence held strong and allowed West to break free for the hat trick goal with just under two minute to play. Shier, and the Fury defence, shut the door the rest of the way to seal the win.

Fury Head Coach Mike Langford was happy with the win “The game was a fast paced end to end marathon for all that took part...all spectators were heard to say that they could
hardly take the pressure of the see-saw action. The coaching staff was also on the edge of our seat.” Adding “We hope that the close game will be a lesson for the team to take
to the upcoming game vs the Toronto Beaches and Provincial Championships in August.”

KLMLA President Paul Hough added “We’re proud that our Novice team has competed so well this season. They showed a ‘never give up’ attitude by coming from behind to beat the Whitby Warriors. We congratulate them and look forward to seeing them represent the KLMLA and our community at Provincial Championships.”
