PEE WEE FURY ZONE 6 CHAMPIONS
On Wednesday, July 25, 2007 the Pee Wee Fury battled a very determined
Uxbridge squad in the OLA Zone 6 lacrosse championship, and in the end
came away with a decisive 6-1 victory. The boys started out very
tentative on this night, and it was not hard to tell they were nervous,
by the number of missed passes, and inaccurate shooting. As they
settled down however, you could see things start to swing in their favour,
as they controlled the play at both ends of the floor, and started to pepper
the poor Uxbridge goalie with a barrage of shots, while Fury goalie, Josh
ONeill was able to see a lot of the Uxbridge shots from long distance.
In the second period, the Fury were relentless in their attack, and all
the visitors could do was try and keep the Fury to the outside. Some
pinpoint passing and shooting allowed the Fury to build a lead that
they would not give up. When called upon in the latter half of the
game the Fury goalie was bound and determined not to give up any goals,
but late in the third period, in what was one of the few defensive
lapses by the team, one of the Uxbridge players was able to sneak
behind the Fury defence, and went in and broke O'Neills shut out with a
bouncer into the top corner.
The Fury goals were scored by Jacob Halsall, Craig Shier, Zach Gilmore, Hayden Ryan, Thomas Weber, and Liam Newton. The assists went to Zach Gilmore, Earl Westlake with 2 each and singles to Josh ONeill, Thomas Weber, Riley Smith and Jasper Poulton.
