TOUGH SEASON OPENER FOR BANTAM FURY
If game one of the season for the boys is any indication of how the season
is going to go, it is really going to be a learning experience. The boys
made the trip to Port Perry for their first game against the Uxbridge Enforcers,
and were dominated from start to finish, not only on the score board, losing
12-3, but were out hustled, out muscled and out played in all aspects of
the game.
The game did not start out on a good note, and just 30 seconds into the game, Uxbridge marched right down the floor blew a shot by goalie Josh O'Neill, who was a target in a shooting gallery most of the night, to take an early 1-0 lead. The majority of the play was spent in the Fury end for the first period and O'Neill was peppered with shot after shot as his defence was no where to be found. As the period wound down, the Fury were handed a 5 on 3 powerplay when a couple of the Enforcers were handed high sticking penalties on the same play. The Fury took advantage of this and scored two powerplay goals, one by Zac Gilmore and the other by Devin Jordan. So, at the end of the first period, the boys from Uxbridge, not only led on the scoreboard, 3-2, but also held a 16-6 margin in the shots on goal department.
So, the second period began with the Enforcers out in front 3-2, but it did not take them long to increase their lead by 2, scoring less then 2 minutes into the period. The Fury just could not seem to contain the size and speed of their opponents, and they were able to get into the shooting lanes whenever they wished and fire on the Fury goalie at will. The action again all seemed to be in the Fury end, with the boys unable to amount any type of offence. The Enforcers held a 7-2 lead just prior to the end of the second period, when a goal by the Fury's Jacob Halsall lessened the margin to 4. The second period ended with Uxbridge leading the game 7-3 and again outshooting the Fury 15-3, giving them a total of 31 shots over two periods to the Fury's 9.
The third period was totally dominated by the Enforcers, as they continued
to hem the Fury in their end for most of the period and scored another
5 goals, while the Fury were unable to mount any type of offence at all.
The game ended with the final score being 12-3 for Uxbridge. The shots
on goal for the third period were 15-4 in favour of Uxbridge, giving them
a game total of 46 shots, while the Fury only managed 13 shots.
Again, the Fury goals were scored by Devin Jordan, Jacob Halsall, and Zac Gilmore, assists went to Craig Shier, with 2, and Brad Gerrow, with 3. Next action for the Mason Home Fury, will be in Lindsay on Tuesday, May 13, 2008, when they will be looking for some revenge, when they host the same team from Uxbridge.
